Granada: Home of one of the oldest universities of Europe
Granada is a great place to visit for students from abroad. It has one of the oldest universities of Europe and many people from all over the world come here every year.
If you’re interested in culture don’t miss the Alhambra. It’s the most important monument of this student city. It is always very hot during summertime and if you’re on a work placement you will have to get used to typical Spanish working hours which can vary a lot from Northern European business hours.

Did you know that Granada was first settled by native tribes in the prehistoric period, and was known as Ilbyr. And that the Romans made a change by colonizing southern Spain, they built their own city in Granada and called it Illibris. The Arabs or the North Africans, invading the peninsula in the 8th century and it is them who gave it its current name of Granada.
It was also the last Muslim city to fall to the Christians in 1492, at the hands of Queen Isabel of Castile and her husband Ferdinand of Aragon.
For the students from abroad, Granada has lots of lively bars and restaurants. They are serving a range of tasty tapas and good food.
