In Berlin each year, the City offers a growing list of great festivals, parades, celebrations, and annual cultural highlights. First time students from abraod in Berlin well notice a boasting over 1,500 events daily, Berlin promises an exciting event program in 2008, from museum nights and design festivals to symphonies, sports events and outdoor fairs.

Berlin is for sure a city to consider to visit or to study while you are studying in Germany or any where else in Europe.

Some Event examples in Berlin 2008:

Carnival in Berlin ( February 3)
More than 1 million spectators and participants are again expected to attend the 8th annual Berlin Carnival Costume Parade. With an expected 3,000 participants in 100 groups, 60 floats, and numerous marching bands, the frolicsome parade will start at 11:11 am, and move through the Western center of the German capital (www.karnevals-zug-berlin.de).

Festival Days at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden ( March 15 – 24)
A “must” for classical music aficionados from around the world, the Festival Days at the Staatsoper are one of Berlin’s musical highlights. Every year, highly acclaimed artists present two opera productions plus several symphonic works. Featured in 2008, will be Richard Wagner’s “Mastersingers of Nuremberg” under the baton of Daniel Barenboim, as well as a new production of Sergei Prokofiev’s opera “The Gambler”. Based Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s novel and rarely performed in Germany, “The Gambler” will be produced by Dmitri Tcherniakov and directed by Daniel Barenboim. Further highlights include three concerts presented by Barenboim - both as conductor and as pianist - together with famed Chinese pianist Lang Lang. The two artists will perform works for piano by Franz Liszt, Béla Bartók and Maurice Ravel. (www.staatsoper-berlin.org).

Designmai 2008 (May 22-31)
Since the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989, a new generation of designers has established itself in Germany, setting trends and gaining recognition around the world. In its 6th year, the annual design festival “Designmai” will bring together local and international designers to present the most innovative trends. Over 100 events, exhibitions, workshops, presentations and lectures are planned at numerous locations throughout the city. (www.designmai.de).

Carnival of Cultures (May 9 – 12)
In celebration of the cultural and ethnic diversity found in the German Capital, the 13th Carnival of Cultures will host about 1 million enthusiastic patrons in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district. Presenting a colorful parade with over 100 groups, 4,000 dancers, singers and musicians from about 70 more than nations, the "Carnival of Cultures” has become one of Berlin's most popular and highly anticipated annual events.
