Being the capital city, Madrid possesses a large number of bars, varying in their style and atmosphere, which makes it a great place to socialise for a student.

In every bar you will be able to buy a “caña,” (a small beer) and in common with much of Spain there are many tapas bars where the locals like to eat as well as drink. There are bars where you can simply chill out with your flatmates or university friends and there are bars for the more trendy students among us.

A popular place with students is La Latina area, where there is a more bohemian atmosphere. For good tapas try Plaza Santa Ana or Cava Baja. In general nightlife in Spain begins a lot later and so the bar scene is a large part of the evening for students from abroad or in general and workers alike.
